Walking is life. Life is so much better when the sun is shining and you are walking with a group of beautiful women. I did ask for beautiful weather because no-one wants to walk in rain especially if you are going through cancer treatment or rebuilding with your immunity.
I find strength in all women I meet. Listening to other women and chatting whilst walking is a great way to move the body. We all have different levels of stamina, energy levels and movement capacity. But what we can all do is walk even if it is around the garden, to the end of the road or with a family member/friend. To breathe fresh air and enjoy the sun with friends is something you long for when you are stuck in a chemo chair staring at a drip of toxic fluids being fired into your arm like a gun at a start of a race. The freedom to walk and have control of where you go is a powerful tool, unlike treatment which sometimes takes control of your whole body.
I am inspired by what people achieve even in the face adversity. I set up the Eat Move Glow Cancer Support Group to meet other like minded women in the Bath area. Instead of sitting in a coffee shop drinking coffee, I wanted to do low level movement that we could all do and support each other. Bath is a stunning area with city and countryside sat next to each other like two peas in a pod. Newton St Loe is situated by Bath Spa University and not many people know that on the campus they have some hidden secret lakes. It was perfect for a 40 minute walk from Newton Farm Shop, strolling pass spring flowers, fishermen, swans, ducks plus a fascinating blend of Roman, medieval and Georgian architecture.
There are some beautiful walks for all abilities in Bath and I am excited to announce that we have a member of our group Sarah Lillywhite who is fitness guru from Bath that is getting trained in Nordic Walking.
